| ST.GEORGE'S CONVENT NATIONAL GALLERY COLLECTIONS IN THE OLDEST CZECH MONASTERY | ||

Originally a Benedictine
nunnery founded in 973, attached to the earlier St. George's Basilica, by the
sister of the ruling Prince of Bohemia. Both builidngs have retained their
mid-12th-century architectural dispositions, a Baroque facade was annexed to the
Basilica in the later half of the 17th century. The Abbey currently houses the
Prague National Gallery's Collection of Bohemian Art from the era of Emperor
Rudolf I to the Baroque.
